RCS is rolling out gradually. Two things decide whether a message goes out as
RCS: the **country** it's available in, and whether each **contact's phone** can
receive it. This page explains both, and where to see your reachable audience.

## Where RCS is available

RCS is available through Instasent in **Spain** currently. **France**, **Italy**
and **Germany** are coming next. The list grows country by country.

{/* VERIFY: confirm the live-country list and any rollout dates before publishing. Sources state Spain is live and FR/IT/DE are "coming soon" with no committed dates — do not promise dates. */}

## Is RCS enabled for your project

SMS is always available, and RCS sits alongside it. To begin sending RCS, you first
**create your sender**. Then you **register and approve the RCS agent in each
country** where you want to operate. Until the agent is **approved in a country**,
you can't send RCS messages to that destination. Once the agent is approved, RCS
becomes available for that project and that country. See
[RCS senders & verification](/platform/en/channels/rcs/senders-verification) to
register yours.

{/* VERIFY: exact project-level RCS availability (whether every project can start registering an agent, or a project attribute/flag gates it) — confirm with product before stating a hard rule. */}

## Who can receive RCS

A contact receives RCS when their phone and messaging app support it, in a country
where your agent is approved. Instasent tracks this per contact, so each one is
one of:

- **Supported** — confirmed able to receive RCS.
- **Not supported** — confirmed unable; they'll get the SMS fallback instead.
- **Unknown** — not yet determined.

**Supported** contacts receive your message as RCS. For **Not supported** and
**Unknown** contacts, if fallback is enabled, delivery is attempted by SMS, which
is billed under the SMS channel's conditions; how each case is charged is detailed
in [SMS fallback](/platform/en/channels/rcs/sms-fallback).

## See how many contacts are reachable

When you pick the audience for a campaign or automation, the summary shows a
**Breakdown by RCS support** — how many contacts are **Supported**, **Not
supported** or **Unknown** — alongside the **Available audience for RCS + SMS**. This tells you, before
you send, how much of your audience RCS will reach directly.

> **Tip**: Contacts who are **Not supported** or **Unknown** don't have to miss out — pair
> RCS with [SMS fallback](/platform/en/channels/rcs/sms-fallback) so they receive
> your message as an SMS.

To set up the sender that lets you send in a country, see
[RCS senders & verification](/platform/en/channels/rcs/senders-verification).
