Alias rejected by the CNMC
If the CNMC has rejected your alias registration, the rejection reason tells you what to do next. The seven common reasons and how to resolve each one before filing again.
If the CNMC has rejected the registration of one of your aliases, check the rejection reason before starting a new request. The reason tells you whether it's enough to file again or whether you need to change the alias.
These are the most common reasons and what to do in each case.
1. Approval deadline passed
The request was filed on the holder's behalf and was left pending authorisation, but it wasn't approved within the 10 working days allowed.
This doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the alias.
What to do: file a new request and make sure the holder or their representative authorises it within the deadline. The authorisation steps are in Authorising the alias at the CNMC.
2. Holder's decision
The holder received the request and decided not to authorise it.
What to do: confirm whether the rejection was intentional. If you still want to use the alias, you'll need to file a new request and authorise it.
3. Duplicate request
The CNMC has received more than one request for the same alias and holder.
What to do: first check whether the alias already shows as registered or active. If a valid registration already exists, there's no need to register it again. If none of the requests went through, start a new one.
4. Alias without a link
The CNMC couldn't establish a legitimate link between the alias and its holder.
The link can be justified, for example, by a trademark or trade name, the company name, an internet domain or any other element proving your right to use the alias.
What to do: review the link you provided, use the one that best justifies the relationship between the alias and the holder, and file the request again.
5. Generic alias
The alias is too generic and doesn't clearly identify a specific company or organisation.
For example, names based solely on words such as INFO, ALERTA (alert) or
OFERTA (offer) may be rejected.
What to do: use a more distinctive alias, clearly related to your brand, trade name or company.
6. Misleading alias
The CNMC considers that the alias could be confused with another company, brand or organisation.
What to do: use an alias that clearly identifies your organisation and can't be read as belonging to a third party.
7. Matching alias
The alias matches another one already registered by a different holder.
What to do: use a different alias or, if you believe you have a better right to it, you'll need to prove that to the CNMC.
Filing a new request
You can register directly with the CNMC by following the steps in Registering your alias directly with the CNMC.
If you don't have a valid Spanish electronic certificate, someone else can act on your behalf with an authorisation letter — see Registering the alias without an electronic certificate.
