Shopify
Connect your Shopify store as a data source: OAuth authorization, the customers and orders it syncs in real time, how its fields map to Instasent attributes, and how Shopify's marketing status maps to consent.
Shopify is the native connector for ecommerce. Once authorized, it syncs your store's customers and orders into Instasent in real time, so your audience and your purchase events stay current without any manual import.
How to connect
Shopify is a native OAuth connector: you enter your store domain, then authorize Instasent from your store and grant the requested permissions in Shopify's own window, and you're connected. There's no key to create or copy anywhere.
Add the data source
In Data sources, select Add data source and choose Shopify from the Integrations section.
Enter your store domain
Fill in your Shop domain (the
your-storepart ofyour-store.myshopify.com) and select Connect Shopify account. This opens Shopify's authorization window.Grant access in Shopify
In Shopify's own window, approve the requested access. Shopify returns you to Instasent and the source moves to connected.
Initial import
The connector runs an initial import of your existing customers and orders, then keeps syncing as changes happen.
What it syncs
- Contacts — your store's customers, with their name, email and phone.
- Orders — purchase events, in real time as they happen, so they're available for segments and automations.
The sync direction is one-way, from Shopify into Instasent. Contacts unify with the rest of your audience by email and phone, the same as any source — see unification.
Once connected, the source's overview brings the store's audience and purchase activity together in one place — contacts, orders, revenue and a live activity feed:
The events it brings in
The real value of the store connection is its events: every purchase moment Instasent receives becomes something you can segment on or trigger an automation from — Order created, Order paid, Order shipped, Checkout abandoned, Customer created and more.
Field mapping
Shopify customer fields map to the matching Instasent attributes — email to
_email, mobile phone to _phone_mobile, name fields to their attributes — and
order data arrives as ecommerce events. As with any source you confirm the mapping
on setup; see field mapping.
Consent mapping
Shopify records a customer's email and SMS marketing status, and Instasent maps it
to the marketing-preference attribute (_accepts_marketing_*) like this:
| Shopify status | Instasent value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
subscribed | true | Accepted marketing |
not_subscribed | null | No preference — never opted in or out |
unsubscribed | false | Actively declined marketing |
The key point is the middle row: a customer who simply never opted in is no
preference (null), not declined. Only an explicit unsubscribe in Shopify becomes
false. This follows the consent golden rule — only an active opt-out sets
false. For what these values mean for who receives a campaign, see
Consent.
