MailChimp
Connect MailChimp as a data source: authorize with OAuth and pick one list, the contacts and events it syncs, how its fields map to Instasent attributes, and how MailChimp's subscription status maps to consent.
MailChimp is the native connector for your email-marketing lists. Once authorized, it imports the contacts of one MailChimp list into Instasent and keeps them synchronized, so your email audience can drive SMS campaigns and automations alongside the rest of your audience.
How to connect
MailChimp is a native OAuth connector: you authorize Instasent from MailChimp and, once connected, pick which list to import. There's no key to create or copy anywhere.
Add the data source
In Data sources, select Add data source and choose MailChimp from the Integrations section.
Authorize in MailChimp
Select the connect action to open MailChimp's authorization window, sign in if needed, and approve the access.
Choose the list
Back in Instasent, select the MailChimp list to import to your audience. Each list is imported separately — since lists may have different fields and data, connect another data source for each list you want.
Initial import
The connector imports the contacts of that list, then keeps them in sync.
What it syncs
- Contacts — the members of the selected list, with their fields.
- Events — activity from your MailChimp list, available for segments and automations.
MailChimp keeps the data current through real-time webhooks and periodic resynchronization, and its webhooks can trigger your automations as activity happens. The direction is one-way, from MailChimp into Instasent, and contacts unify by email and phone — see unification.
Field mapping
MailChimp contact fields map to the matching Instasent attributes — email to _email,
phone to _phone_mobile, and so on — and events arrive with their parameters. As with
any source you confirm the mapping on setup; see
field mapping.
Consent mapping
Map MailChimp's subscription status to Instasent's marketing-preference attribute
(_accepts_marketing_*) following the consent golden rule:
| MailChimp status | Instasent value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribed | true | Accepted marketing |
| Never subscribed / no status | null | No preference |
| Unsubscribed | false | Actively declined marketing |
Only an active opt-out (unsubscribed) in MailChimp becomes false. A contact who
never subscribed maps to no preference (null), never to false. For what these
values mean for who receives a campaign, see
Consent.
