Unsubscribe links
How the unsubscribe link works: the {{unsubscribe}} template token, the configurable opt-out prefix, your own unsubscribe domain with the same DNS setup as short links, the opt-out text required per country, and how opting out connects to a contact's consent.
An unsubscribe link gives your contacts a one-tap way to stop receiving your messages — and including one is a legal requirement in most countries. Instasent generates the link for you and inserts it into your messages; you control the wording around it and, if you want, the domain it uses. You'll find this under Settings → Tools → Unsubscribe links.
How the link is inserted
You don't paste an unsubscribe link by hand. You add the {{unsubscribe}} token to your message, and Instasent renders it at send time: a tappable URL for RCS, and for SMS the localized opt-out text plus the link. The same model produces the right wording for each channel.
The required opt-out text varies by country. For example, the United States and Canada use "STOP to opt-out", and France uses "STOP au #sms#". Instasent applies the wording each destination requires.
The opt-out prefix
You can configure a word that precedes the unsubscribe link — the opt-out prefix (the field is labelled Prefix). It's empty by default — only the unsubscribe link is added — and can be up to 64 characters. The prefix is set per channel, alongside the channel's opt-out keywords, reply handling and scope.
Your own unsubscribe domain
By default, the unsubscribe link uses a generic Instasent domain. You can replace it with your own branded domain so the link carries your name. The setup is the same as for short links — you add a domain you own (an apex domain like stop-myshop.com, or a subdomain like stop.myshop.com) and create the DNS records the panel shows.
The DNS records, the two setup modes and the verification flow work exactly as described for short links — see Short links & branded domain. Each unsubscribe domain also has a Default redirect URL: your business's main webpage, or a page explaining how to unsubscribe.
What opting out does
When a contact uses the unsubscribe link or replies with the opt-out keyword, Instasent records the opt-out on their consent: they no longer receive marketing on that channel, and they're excluded from campaigns by default. The full model — marketing preference versus channel suppression, who can re-subscribe a contact, and how an opt-out escalates — is in Consent & subscriptions.
Permissions
Anyone signed in can view the unsubscribe settings. Adding a branded unsubscribe domain is subject to your plan's limit, and the write actions — setting a domain active, archiving — require the project-write permission.
