Intercom
Connect Intercom as a data source: the OAuth authorization, the contacts, companies and events it syncs, how its fields map to Instasent attributes, and how consent is handled.
Intercom is the native connector for your Intercom contacts, companies and events. Once authorized, it syncs them into Instasent, so the people you talk to in Intercom and the activity they generate become part of your audience without any manual import.
How to connect
Intercom is a native OAuth connector: you authorize Instasent from Intercom and grant the requested permissions in Intercom's own window, and you're connected. There's no key to create or copy anywhere.
Add the data source
In Data sources, select Add data source and choose Intercom from the Integrations section.
Authorize in Intercom
Select the connect action to open Intercom's authorization window, sign in if needed, and approve the requested access.
Initial import
Intercom returns you to Instasent and the source moves to connected. The connector runs an initial import of your existing contacts, companies and events, then keeps syncing as changes happen.
What it syncs
- Contacts — the people in your Intercom workspace, with their name, email and phone.
- Companies — the companies your contacts belong to.
- Events — activity from Intercom, available for segments and automations.
Intercom keeps the data current through real-time webhooks, and event types are mapped automatically. The direction is one-way, from Intercom into Instasent. Contacts unify with the rest of your audience by email and phone, the same as any source — see unification.
Field mapping
Intercom contact fields map to the matching Instasent attributes — email to _email,
phone to _phone_mobile, name fields to their attributes — and events arrive with their
parameters. As with any source you confirm the mapping on setup; see
field mapping.
Consent mapping
Map Intercom's subscription status to Instasent's marketing-preference attribute
(_accepts_marketing_*) following the consent golden rule:
| Intercom status | Instasent value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Opted in | true | Accepted marketing |
| No status | null | No preference — never opted in or out |
| Unsubscribed / opted out | false | Actively declined marketing |
Only an active opt-out in Intercom becomes false. A contact with no recorded status
maps to no preference (null), never to false. For what these values mean for who
receives a campaign, see
Consent.
